Durango offers Best-In-Class towing (up to 7200 lbs), is the most powerful SUV in its class and has a class-exclusive eight-speed transmission. Offering two capable engines, the Durango shines under the hood. A standard 3.6L Pentastar VVT V6 with AWD delivers can be as efficient as 9.6 L/100 km on the highway and creates 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. A 5.7L HEMI VVT V8 delivers 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Explorer comes with a standard 3.5L Ti-VCT (twin independent variable camshaft timing) which creates 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. An upgraded 3.5L EcoBoost uses turbocharging and direct injection together to create more power and be more efficient. This 3.7L offers of a best-in-class 365 horsepower, plus 350 lb.-ft. of torque (standard in the Ford Explorer Sport and Platinum).

Both the Explorer and Durango have a high focus on technology and safety with the Explorer edging out the Durango because of the amazing host of parking assist systems. On the Explorer you get an available front 180 degree camera (with self washer). There is also a lane keep assist system which ensures you will not drift. Inside the available sync 390 integrating cell phone to entertainment system allowing for streaming, app use, hands-free and navigation. While parking you can use park assist which helps in every type of parking situation from parallel, to reverse, to pull out parking. On Durango there is a 7-inch full-colour, fully customizable in-cluster display. Drivers also benefit from the to the available Uconnect system with an 8.4-inch touchscreen. This system allows for hands free control of all multimedia functions by way of bluetooth connectivity. There are upwards of 60 safety and security features available on Durango with standard seven airbags, Blind-Spot Monitoring (with Rear Cross-Path Detection). Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking monitors the front of the SUV. Both SUVs are equipped with lane departure warning and lane keep assist.
